Did You Say Dentist?

The word “dentist” is the most commonly used term among the public. It creates a sincere and warm feeling, as if "I'm here, don't be afraid!" as if to say. When we think of a dentist, we usually think of that friendly person in the neighborhood, whom everyone knows and loves, maybe a little afraid of, but in the end we say, "Oh, I'm glad I came." However, this term is not a formal definition and is not generally used in professional settings.

What about a Dentist?

“Dentist” means someone who has a doctorate degree, especially in dentistry, or a doctorate in that field. It is used for professionals conducting academic studies. This term draws attention to scientific research and academic contributions, as well as to the practice of dentistry. So, a little more "I studied this subject, I even did a doctorate on it!" It has the air of saying.

So, which one is correct? Actually all of them! It depends on the situation and context. Calling your local dentist “dentist” might be more formal, but calling “dentist” at a dental conference might be a bit of an understatement.
