Tooth extraction is one of the most common dental procedures. But although this is a simple procedure, post-operative care is critical. With proper care, the healing process can be accelerated and complications can be minimized.

1. Within the First 24 Hours:

– Control of Bleeding: Help control bleeding by applying gentle pressure on the gauze or cotton placed on the area after tooth extraction for approximately 30 minutes. Avoid spitting, shaking and sucking activities.

Oral Hygiene: Avoid brushing or gargling for the first 24 hours. Thus, the clotting process is not disrupted.

– Avoiding Hot Beverages and Foods: Avoid hot drinks and foods in the first few hours. You can choose cold drinks instead.

2. Diet and Nutrition:

– Soft Diet: Choose soft foods (yoghurt, mashed potatoes, soup, etc.) for the first few days.

– Chewing: Be careful to eat on your other side, staying away from the extraction area.

3. Pain and Swelling:

– Cold Compress: In the first 24 hours after tooth extraction, you can apply a cold compress to the area by applying it for 20 minutes and taking a break for 20 minutes. This helps reduce swelling.

– Painkillers: You can use painkillers recommended by your doctor.

4. Other Recommendations:

– Smoking and Alcohol: Do not smoke or consume alcohol for at least 48 hours. These can slow down the healing process and increase the risk of complications.

– Physical Activity: Avoid heavy exercises and physical activities for the first 24 hours.

– Monitoring Healing: If symptoms such as redness, swelling, pain, bleeding or pus do not subside after 2-3 days, you should consult your dentist.
